GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy exploded for 12 second-half goals en route to a 17-11 CSAC win over Centenary Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman
Kelsey Yori (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) led the attack with four goals and an assist as 11 players registered a point for their third-straight win.
Goalie
Marina Hubbard (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) recorded a season-high 14 saves.
The Griffins (5-6, 4-2 CSAC) trailed 6-5 at the break, but opened the second half on a 7-1 spurt in the first eight minutes of the stanza. Back-to-back tallies from Yori just under two minutes apart gave GM a 12-7 lead.
Seniors
Kirstyn Varas (Essington, Pa./Interboro),
Shannon Harmer (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and
Brigid Dowling (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) along with freshman
Rachel Irons (Delran, N.J./Delran) each added two scores apiece. Junior
Jenna Gaydosh (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) chipped in a goal and two assists.
Danielle Bay had team highs of five goals and two assists for Centenary (8-3, 4-2 CSAC).
Gwynedd outshot the Cyclones, 35-33. Cyclone goalie Andrea Senkarik recorded nine.
The Griffins return to action on Tuesday when they welcome Notre Dame for a Colonial States Athletic Conference matchup starting at 4 p.m.
