LYNCHBURG, VA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy fell at Sweet Briar, 12-9, as the Griffins kicked off the 2012 season on Tuesday.

Seniors Morgan Hosler (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) netted four goals and an assist while Brigid Dowling (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) chipped in two as Gwynedd led 7-5 at halftime, but saw the Vixens score five-straight goals to start the second. GM was outscored in that stanza, 7-2.

Olivia Hurt netted four goals, all in the second half, for Sweet Briar. Jessie Edington, Sam Schwartz, and Kimberly Orchowski all had two scores apiece respectively.

Freshman goalie Marina Hubbard (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) recorded 11 saves for the Griffins (0-1). SBC keeper Caroline Baker made 12.

Gwynedd-Mercy returns to action on Tuesday when they take on Marywood in CSAC action. It will be a rematch of last season's conference championship. Game time is 7 p.m.
