Late Goal Caps Rally As Griffins Defeat Arcadia

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. – Senior Jenna D'Arcy (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) scored the game-winning goal with just 55 seconds left to cap a wild comeback in Gwynedd-Mercy's 12-11 win over Arcadia on Thursday.

The Griffins trailed 11-9 late in the contest, but three goals in the last 4:49 of the contest gave GM its first home win on the season. Arcadia, who jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first, was held to just four second-half goals.

Senior Brigid Dowling (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) scored five times and added two assists, tied it up at 11-all with her unassisted tally with 3:35 showing. The Knights had two scoring opportunities to try and take a lead but were turned away from goalie Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton). GM was able to get a clear and press for their first lead of the contest. D'Arcy drew a free position shot chance, and buried it past Arcadia keeper Deanna Thompson.

Freshman Rachel Irons (Delran, N.J./Delran) then won a big possession off the ensuing draw control where the Griffins were able to play keep away to nail down the win.

Dowling scored twice midway in the first to put the Griffins (3-6) on the board. The Knights tacked on two more before senior Shannon Carabba (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield) netted two just over a minute apart, to cut the lead at the half to 7-4.

Carabba and Shannon Harmer (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) scored back-to-back goals early in the second to make it a one-score game.

Meghan Fallon led Arcadia (3-4) with four goals. Her last score of the day came with 5:48 in the game for an 11-9 edge.
Kruk entered in the second half and recorded five saves to pick up the win. Thompson was equally impressive, registering 18 saves.

Senior Morgan Hosler (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and freshman Sarah Lombardi (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) also tallied goals for the Griffins.

Gwynedd-Mercy will welcome Cedar Crest on Saturday in a CSAC matchup with an early start time of 11 a.m.
