GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy defeated Penn State-Berks, 11-4, Wednesday afternoon to snap an eight-game winless streak.

Senior Kevin Smeraglio (Newtown, Pa. / Holy Ghost) had a big day at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple and a stolen base. Junior Shane Lynch (Marlton, N.J. / Cherokee) sparked the offense as well with a 3-for-4 performance with a two-run home run in the third to cap off a seven-run third inning for the Griffins.

Senior R.J. Finizio (Maple Shade, N.J. / Maple Shade) picked up his first win of the season on the mound. Finizio worked three innings and fanned three batters as well.

The Griffins (9-11) used just three hits with two walks, and error and a hit by pitch in the third inning to score their seven runs. With the sacks full, sophomore Josh Van Horn (Brookhaven, Pa. / Monsignor Bonner) cleared the bases with a one out double to center followed by a Smeraglio triple to score Van Horn and later the Lynch homer to right.

The Nittany Lions (3-13) were led by Kyle Hartman who had two of the four Berks hits on the day.

Gwynedd returns to CSAC play this weekend. The Griffins will travel Friday to Campbell's Field in Camden, NJ to face Neumann at 3 p.m. Gwynedd will host Neumann Saturday for a doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m
