SWOYERSVILLE, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy had their win streak come to an end as Misericordia swept a doubleheader on Saturday. Game one was a 14-13 slugfest in eight innings while game two was a 9-5 decision.

In game one, Gwynedd forced extra innings by scoring six runs in the top of the seventh. The Cougars won it in the eighth on a bunt single to score a runner from third.

Junior Shane Lynch (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) was 3-for-5 with four RBI's including a three-run homer in the fourth. Freshman Rick Elfreth (Sicklerville, N.J./St. Augustine) drove in three runs and junior Brian Susten (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) was 2-for-5 with a big two-run single in that seventh inning.

The Griffins plated three in the second using a two-run single from Elfreth and a RBI hit from sophomore Josh Van Horn (Brookhaven, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) for a 3-0 lead. Misericordia answered with an eight-spot in the bottom of the frame using four hits and taking advantage of  four Griffin errors.

The errors continued in the fourth as two miscues to start the inning led to three runs and an 11-3 hole. Lynch made it 11-6 with his three-run shot, his first on the year.

Reliever Luis Martinez (Sinking Spring, Pa./Conrad Weiser) was charged with the loss.

Game two saw the teams trade blow-for-blow as Gwynedd and Misericordia each scored runs in the first and third innings. Leading 4-2, the Cougars plated three in the sixth on two hits and two errors. Gwynedd tried to rally again in the seventh, as sophomore John Burns (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) knocked in pinch hitter Tom Mackey (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy), but that would be as close as GM would get.

Starter John Barrington (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) took the loss, going into the third inning allowing six runs on five hits.

Gwynedd-Mercy (8-5) hosts Swarthmore on Tuesday starting at 4 p.m.
