BOX SCORE

WASHINGTON -- Gwynedd-Mercy had their season come to an end as the Griffins lost at Catholic, 77-72, in a first-round game of the 2012 ECAC South Region Tournament.

Senior Dan DelConte (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) scored 20 points, but Gwynedd, which led for most of the game, went scoreless over the last 4:36 of the contest. The Cardinals' Steve Limberiou hit the eventual go-ahead three-pointer with just under three minutes in the game.

Down 75-72, GM had an opportunity to tie it up on their final possession, but DelConte's three-pointer with nine ticks was no good. The ensuing rebound fell into the hands of Shawn Holmes of Catholic. His two free throws helped sealed the contest.

Holmes led all scorers with 29 points. Limberiou and Nelson Mendez each added 10 respectively.

Sophomore Brandyn Wims (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) chipped in 16 points and a game-high seven assists as Gwynedd was making their third appearance in the ECAC Tournament.

The Griffins raced out to a 12-0 lead to start the contest. DelConte's three-pointer gave GM a 21-8 lead midway through the period. Catholic (18-8) then used a 16-2 run to take a one-point lead with 8:19 in the stanza. Gwynedd rallied to lead 36-31 at the break.

Gwynedd would hold that lead for most of the second, staving off any CUA surges. DelConte's fourth three-pointer put GM up by seven (72-65) with 4:36 to play, but it would be the last field goal for the team as Catholic scored the next 12 points and dodged a game-tying trey attempt to advance to the semifinal round.

It was the final game for DelConte and fellow seniors Brandon Sharp (Hammonton, N.J./St. Joseph), Brandon Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia Electrical) and Brian Reid (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter).

Gwynedd-Mercy finishes the 2011-12 season with a final record of 17-10
