Griffins Handed 65-56 Setback At Juniata

HUNTINGDON, PA. – Sophomore Shea Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) posted career highs with 23 points and 14 rebounds but it was Juniata handing Gwynedd-Mercy a 65-56 setback on Saturday.

The Griffins (1-2) led 34-32 at halftime but were held to 25.0% shooting (8-of-32) including an 0-for-12 stint from behind the arc in the second.

Junior Taylor Alston (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) also registered a double-double, producing 11 points and 13 caroms.

Kate McDonald netted 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Eagles (3-0), while teammate Jordan Speck added 15 points. Speck's bucket gave Juniata a 43-42 edge with 13:27 in the second, with the lead creeping u p to as much as seven.

Wassel completed a three-point play to pull GM within one (50-49) with just over seven minutes in the game, but the Griffins were only good on three field goals the rest of the way as Juniata held off Gwynedd.

GM won the battle of the boards, 46-42, but committed 26 turnovers.

The Griffins will get right back at it on Monday with a trip to King's for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
