GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA -- Gwynedd-Mercy came out victorious in a battle of division leaders Saturday afternoon at the Griffin Complex, defeating Marywood University, 81-51, for their ninth-straight win.
The Griffins were led by three double-digit performances. Sophomore guard
Jordan Dominic (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) led GM scoring 13 points off the bench shooting a perfect 4-4 from the field. The Griffins outscored the bench of the Pacers 41-20 for the game. Sophomore
Taylour Alston (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) pulled off a near double-double scoring eleven points and pulling down nine caroms. Senior guard
Brittany Neill (Woodlyn, Pa./Archmere Academy Del.) added twelve points and dished out four assists her backcourt mate,
Bryn Cotteta (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) had a productive afternoon scoring six points adding seven assists and pulling down seven boards.
In the first half the Griffins (14-6, 10-1 CSAC) used a 12-0 spurt to take a 27-17 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the half and stretched it to a 38-25 edge at the break.
Gwynedd used a second-half 10-0 run to take a 65-38 lead with Dominic scoring seven points during the stretch. The Griffins shot a blistering 57.1% for the period knocking down four three pointers to secure the victory.
For the game, the Griffins shot 47.5% (29-of-61) from the field. They outscored the Pacers in the paint 42-22, and dished out twenty assists as a team.
The team held Marywood (13-6, 8-2 CSAC) to 24.3% (17-70) shooting, forcing sixteen turnovers on the defensive end of the floor. Carly Leitzel led the Pacers with 11 points and Morgann Haduck chipped in 10 off the bench.
The Griffins outrebounded the Pacers, 55-42. Freshman
Shea Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) pulled down eight rebounds for Gwynedd. Maggie Presnal grabbed eight rebounds and added ten points.
Gwynedd will turn around and host Notre Dame of Maryland University Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
