GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy suffered their third-straight loss in falling to Keystone, 100-82, Wednesday night in CSAC action.
Freshman
Justin Knight (Mays Landing, N.J. / Oakcrest) scored a career-high 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Griffins.
Kenneth Hardnett totaled 19 points and a game-high 18 rebounds for the Giants.
In the first half, Gwynedd took their largest lead (28-24) on a
Dan DelConte (Blue Bell, Pa. / Wissahickon) layup with just over ten minutes remaining in the period. The Giants would regain the lead, taking an eight point lead (45-37) on a Miles Dargan three pointer with four minutes remaining. A Knight three-pointer with a kiss off the glass at the end of the half cut the deficit to 49-47. The Giants opened the second on a 12-3 run, and would later use a 24-14 spurt to close out the game.
The Griffins shot 43.7% (31-71), made ten three pointers and went 10-of-13 from the charity stripe. DelConte finished seventeen and added six assists. Junior
Frank Champion (Northfield, N.J. / Mainland) added 15.
Doug Berzins (Royersford, Pa. / Spring-Ford) and
Brendan Stanton (Harleysville, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic) chipped in thirteen and eleven respectively.
Keystone shot 48.5% (32-of-66) knocking down fourteen three-pointers, 10 of which came in the first half, and made twenty two free throws. The Giants had seven players score double digits led by Tim Benedix who scored a team high twenty points on six three pointers. Dan Candemeres scored twelve and dished out eleven assists. Malcolm Boone and Dargan scored thirteen apiece and Mike Kelly and Duncan Lunsford added twelve and eleven.
Keystone outrebound Gwynedd 42-40. Senior
Brandon Sharp (Hammonton, N.J. / St. Joseph's) led the Griffins pulling down nine caroms. Champion and DelConte each grabbed six apiece.
The Griffins now return home Saturday against Marywood for a 4 p.m. tip-off looking to break their winless skid.
