GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA -- Gwynedd-Mercy College defeated Centenary College 83-50 on Wednesday night at the Griffin Complex as senior
Dan DelConte (Blue Bell, Pa. / Wissahickon) led all scorers with 24 points and added eight assists.
The Griffins (9-5, 4-3 CSAC) used a 43-15 cushion at the half, holding Centenary to just 16.0% shooting to pace themselves to the victory. The Cyclones (6-9, 2-6 CSAC) kept it close early on when they tied the contest 7-7 but the Griffins never looked back. DelConte scored seventeen points in the stanza as GMC used a 36-8 run to close out the period.
Gwynedd-Mercy (9-5, 4-3 CSAC) shot 45.2% (33-of-73) from the floor knocking down nine three pointers as a team and sharing the basketball, dishing out twenty two team assists for the game. Junior guard
Brendan Stanton (Harleysville, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic) added 13 points, while knocking down three longballs from behind the arc.
The Cyclones were unable to click on the offensive side of the floor shooting just 25% (14-of-56) from the floor. Max Hughes paced them with a team-high 12 points. The Griffins defense forced 25 Centenary turnovers converting twenty five points on the other end of the floor.
The Griffins outrebounded the Cyclones, 63-31, for their largest rebound margin of the season and dominated in the paint, outscoring Centenary, 46-12. Junior
Frank Champion (Northfield, N.J. / Mainland) pulled down fifteen rebounds, and contributed eight points, four blocked shots. Ludner Innocent pulled down five boards to lead Centenary.
As a team, GMC posted a season-high nine total blocks.
The Griffins now venture on a three game road trip in league play. They will travel Monday to rival Immaculata University for an 8 p.m. tip-off as part of a CSAC Doubleheader with the women.
