GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- With their two wins over Philadelphia Biblical on Saturday, the Gwynedd-Mercy Baseball Team cemented itself as the #2 seed in next week's CSAC Tournament as the Griffins swept a doubleheader.
In game one, senior
Colin Tosti (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) drove in four runs on three hits with two runs scored while
Austin Ley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) and
Jay Sechowicz (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) each scored three times to help lead GM to a 12-3 win.
Ley added an inside-the-park homerun to lead off the third while Sechowicz knocked in a pair of runs.
GM built a 4-0 lead before PBU plated three in the fourth to cut it to a one-run lead. After Gwynedd scored two more in the fifth, a six-run sixth helped open things up.
Junior
John Barrington (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) evened his record at 3-3 on the mound.
Game two had freshman
Andrew Schaefer (Penndel, Pa./Conwell-Egan) go the distance, fanning six, while scattering six hits for his first complete game shutout in a 4-0 victory.
Freshman
Julian Vega (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) had two hits, including an RBI double to highlight a three-run fifth.
The Griffins (16-14-1, 12-6 CSAC) will host third-seeded Immaculata here on Wednesday in the first-round of the conference double elimination tournament. Action continues next Friday and Saturday at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, Pa./
