BOX SCORE

BOYERTOWN, PA. – Junior John Barrington (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) struck out 11 over seven-plus innings to power Gwynedd-Mercy to the championship series of the 2011 CSAC Tournament in a 6-4 win over Immaculata in an elimination game Friday night.

The Griffins will play Keystone tomorrow at 1 p.m. and will need to beat the Giants two times tomorrow to clinch their fourth conference title.

Barrington gave up two earned runs on just four hits while throwing into the eighth. Freshman Josh Van Horn (Brookhaven, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) had two hits including a double while Josh Martin (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X ) scored twice and stole two bases as GM jumped to an early lead.

Gwynedd scored four times in the first, using just two hits but taking advantage of four errors and three walks.

Barrington struck out seven of his first nine batters. He ran into some trouble in the fourth, surrendering two runs, cutting the lead to 4-2.

In the seventh, Martin drew a two-out walk, stole second and reached third on a passed ball. Senior Austin Ley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) would walk as ball four got away from IU catcher Peter Boulware. Martin would race home and the throw to second to try and get Ley sailed into center field. Still hustling, Ley then kept going around third and beat the throw home to give GM a big four-run cushion.

The two runs came in handy as the Mighty Macs crossed two more for a 6-4 game.
