BOX SCORE

BOYERTOWN, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy remained alive in the 2011 CSAC Tournament with a 5-4 win over Neumann in an elimination game Friday afternoon.

The Griffins will now play Immaculata in another elimination game later tonight at 6:45 with the winner advancing to the championship series vs. Keystone.

Sophomore Shane Lynch (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth with a big pinch hit RBI double.

Freshman Luis Martinez (Sinking Spring, Pa./Conrad Weiser) picked up the win in relief, allowing no hits in an inning and a third. He entered in the eighth and worked out of a bases loaded jam.

Sophomore Josh Martin (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. His lead-off single in the eighth kickstarted the go-ahead process. He reached third on a stolen base with the ensuing throw careening into center field. Lynch then came on and sent a line shot to center to score Martin.

Starter Andrew Ball (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) cruised through the first three inning before the Knights plated three in the fourth. Bill Pace led off the frame with a solo homer to left later followed by a bases loaded walk and RBI groundout.

Gwynedd (17-15-1) answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs as Martin led off with a double down the left field line. Senior Austin Ley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) then manufactured both runs as he doubled home Martin and later steal third and then stole home as he beat the wind up home from Neumann pitcher Russ Gilliam.

Errors played a part in both teams scoring runs in the fifth. The Knights scored once in the top of the frame for a 4-2 lead. Freshman Greg Brooks (Voorhees, N.J./St. Joseph's PA) doubled and scored on an error and Ley had an RBI groundout to knot it at 4-4.

Freshman Sean Weber (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic), who came on in the fifth, tossed scoreless sixth and seventh innings before running into trouble in the eighth.
