READING, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy could not recover from an eight-run, three-error first inning as Alvernia ended the Griffin's six-game unbeaten streak in an 11-3 final.

GM scored all three of their runs in the third as freshman Keith Van Horn (Brookhaven, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and an RBI double, senior Colin Tosti (Langhore, Pa./Neshaminy) and freshman Shane Lynch (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) added an RBI groundout in the frame.

The bullpen managed to hold things together after the first as starter Steve Sable (Ivyland, Pa./Holy Ghost) was chased out after a third of an inning. Six relievers combined to hold the Crusaders to two earned runs on six hits.

Alvernia's Mike Moran rebounded from the three-run third, going seven innings yielding four hits while striking out four.

The Griffins (6-8-1) open a big CSAC series this weekend with defending champion Keystone. Gwynedd plays at the Giants on Friday at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the teams meet here in a doubleheader starting at noon.
