GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy rallied for a win and cruised to another in sweeping Centenary in a CSAC Doubleheader on Friday. The Griffins came-from-behind to win 3-2 in game one, and scored a season-high 15 runs in a 15-1 victory in game two.

In game one, Gwynedd rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a three-run sixth. The Griffini bats were silent through four innings as Centenary starter Shane Solimari didn't allow a hit until the fifth. He would last until into the sixth as GM recorded four of their five hits to score three times, all with two outs.

Down 2-0, junior Kevin Smeraglio (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost) singled in a run to get the Griffins on the board. Back-to-back RBI doubles from senior Austin Ley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) and Jay Sechowicz (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) put the Griffins on top.

Senior James Myarick (Philadelphia, Pa./Holy Ghost) picked up the win in relief and freshman Luis Martinez (Sinking Spring, Pa./Conrad Weiser) notched his third save on the season. Starter Andrew Schaefer (Penndel, Pa./Conwell-Egan) struck out seven and scattered seven hits, but he allowed the two runs in the fifth.

Anthony DeSomma went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Cyclones (7-19, 3-9 CSAC) in game one.

In game two, the bats came alive, pounding out a season-high 15 runs on 13 hits. Ley drove in four runs using a two-run double and a two-run homer. Ley, Smeraglio, and sophomore Josh Martin (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) all scored three runs apiece. Martin also added a two-run triple.

Ley doubled in Martin and Smeraglio and RBI singles from freshmen Dante Cassano (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) and Greg Brooks (Voorhees, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep PA), put GM (9-13-1, 6-5 CSAC) up 4-0 in the first.

It was 6-0 in the fourth as Ley hit his second homer of the season.

Freshman Justin Keith (Littlestown, Pa./Delone Catholic) added a two-run single as part of a four-run fifth. The Griffins would bat around in the sixth, totalling five more runs.

Starter John Barrington (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) went five innings, allowing just one run on two hits, with three walks, and two strikeouts.

Brian Lemay drove in the lone run for Centenary, going 2-for-3.

Gwynedd will go for the series sweep on Monday when the two teams meet in Hackettstown starting at 3 p.m.
