true Gwynedd-Mercy 8, Neumann 3
BOX SCORE
GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Freshman
Shane Lynch (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) had four hits and three RBIs and senior
Colin Tosti (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) threw three-plus innings of scoreless relief to help Gwynedd-Mercy end a four-game skid in the Griffin's 8-3 CSAC win over Neumann on Friday.
Lynch went 4-for-4 while senior
Jay Sechowicz (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) added a solo homer for Gwynedd (7-11-1, 4-3 CSAC).
Tosti picked up the win in relief, entering a 3-3 game in the sixth. He would strike out four, including the final out of the game.
Starter
John Barrington (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) got out of two jams in the first and second innings, getting a key double play in the first and getting consecutive outs with runners on second and third.
Lynch staked GM to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a big two-out, two-run double to left. It became 3-0 in the fourth as junior
Kevin Smeraglio (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost) worked a bases loaded walk with two outs.
Barrington ran into trouble in the sixth giving up a lead off homerun to Kevin Flannigan and later a two-run shot from Joe Armata as Neumann tied it at 3-3. Tosti entered with one out and induced two pop ups to end the frame. He then sent the Knights down in order over the next two innings.
In the sixth, Gwynedd plated an unearned run after a botched sacrifice bunt from Lynch would put runners at second and third. Sophomore
Josh Martin (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) grounded out to second, allowing freshman
Josh Van Horn (Brookhaven, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) to come home for a one-run lead.
Sechowicz hit his first homer of the season in the seventh. Lynch spearheaded the three-run eighth, driving in his third RBI of the game and later scoring on an error. Smeraglio tacked on a sac fly.
Barrington and Tosti combined for three runs on just four hits and eight strikeouts.
The two teams will meet tomorrow in a doubleheader at Neumann starting at noon.
