MAHWAH. N.J. -- Gwynedd-Mercy was knocked out of the 2011 NCAA Tournament as the Griffins suffered an 83-73 loss to Buffalo State Friday night on the campus of Ramapo College.

Senior Jon Hogga (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and junior Dan DelConte (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) each netted 18 points, but the Griffins let a double-digit lead slip away in the first half.

Chris Cartwright scored a game-high 21 for the Bengals (22-6) while Jake Simmons added 19. The pair combined to hit all nine of the team's three-pointers on the night.

Gwynedd would lead by as much as 12 in the first, courtesy of a 15-2 run midway through the stanza capped off by a baseline jumper from Crabtree. The Bengals forced turnovers on consecutive GM possessions to start their own retaliatory rally. Simmons hit a trey with 3:08 to give the Bengals their first lead (34-33) since the 12-minute mark. Gwynedd would find itself down, 37-36 at the break.

Both teams shot 42% in the first 20 minutes, but Gwynedd was outrebounded 26-17.

Gwynedd trailed by as much as nine with 9:35 to play, and got it to 62-59 with 6:47. An over the back foul off a Bengal miss, gave Crabtree two free throws, to make it 62-61 with 6:12 left. Junior Brandon Sharp (Hammonton, N.J./St. Joseph) added a bucket from Hogga cutting the deficit to one (64-63) with 4:59 showing.

Simmons and BSC pulled away for good, hitting twice from downtown, on two-straight attempts, to help turn a three-point lead into a nine-point deficit. Buffalo State would go on to hit 9-of-10 from the line to help seal the outcome.

Hogga added 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double on the year while DelConte dished out six of the team's 15 assists.

The Bengals tooka advantage of 16 offensive rebounds, leading to 17 second-chance points.

Senior Jon Crabtree (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) added 13 points as the Griffins close out the 2010-11 season with a final mark of 21-7.
