GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd-Mercy and Rowan played to an extra inning 3-3 tie Wednesday afternoon.

Tied 2-2 going into the 10th, each team plated a run in the extra frame before the game was called due to darkness.

Senior Jay Sechowicz (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) gave the Griffins (5-7-1) a late 2-1 lead with his RBI single in the eighth, but the Profs answered with a two-out Marc Magliaro RBI triple in the top of the ninth.

Sechowicz had two of the four GM hits as each team had their scoring chances throughout the game.

Freshman Andrew Schaefer (Pendel, Pa./Conwel-Egan) made his first collegiate start memorable, going nine innings, scattering two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. His defensive play helped end a threat in the seventh as he was able to get on a ball hit up the middle and make the toss to first for the third out.

Rowan (11-5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single from C.J. Szymczak.

Gwynedd tied it in the fifth as freshman Greg Brooks (Voorhees, N.J./St. Joe's Prep PA) hit a sac fly to left center to score Kevin Smeraglio (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost).

Scaefer and the Griffins got out of a jam in the eighth with a pop out to short after as two GM errors led to two Prof baserunners earlier in the inning.

In the top of the 10th, Rowan again scored a run with two outs, as a walk, followed by a passed ball, allowed pinch runner Nate Floyd to get to second. He would score as an error at short briefly gave the Profs the lead.

Things got off to a good start in the bottom of the frame as a lead-off walk, followed by a hit by pitch, put two on and none out. After a groundout to second to move the runners up, senior Austin Ley (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) knocked in a run with a single to right. But with runners on the corners and one out, pinch hitter Todd Budweg (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale) was unlucky as he smoked a line drive right at Rowan 1B  Matt Hill who easily doubled off Ley at first to end the inning.

The game was then called by the umpires for darkness.

The Griffins play their third game in as many days tomorrow as they play at the College of New Jersey beginning at 3:30 p.m.
