New Coach Gets First Win As Griffins Roll In Season Opener

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- First-year head coach Beth Wheeler picked up win #1 as Gwynedd-Mercy ran past visiting Lancaster Bible, 22-5, in the season opener Wednesday night.

The Griffins had seven multi-scorers on the evening led by the four goals of junior Shannon Carabba (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield). Senior Kristie Pollock (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) added three while Kristi Mackin (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert), Colleen Dellostretto (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland), Jenna D'Arcy (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Morgan Hosler (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), and Elizabeth Rand (Portand, Me./Catherine McAuley) all had two apiece.

After the teams traded goals in the game's first five and a half minutes, the Griffins (1-0) ran off nine-straight scores over the next eight minutes to open up a healthy lead.

Sophomores Brigid Dowling (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and Jenna Gaydosh (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) each dished out two assists while adding a goal.

Whitney Heise had two tallies and a helper for the Chargers (0-1).

GM outshot the Lancaster Bible, 35-23,

Griffin goalie Trisha Timony (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) made six saves. LBC keeper Erin Leonard recorded nine.

Gwynedd will welcome Cazenovia in non-league action here on Saturday in a 1 p.m. start.
