UNION, N.J. -- Nationally-ranked Kean handed Gwynedd-Mercy an 8-0 season-opening defeat as the Griffins kicked off the 2011 season on Saturday.
The Cougars' Joe Bartlinski held the Griffins to five hits over seven scoreless innings while fanning eight.

Josh Martin (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) did go 3-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases while junior
Todd Budweg (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) added two hits and swiped a bag.
Kean (3-0) took advantage of an error in the third to plate two runs and another miscue in the fourth to cross home three more runs as KU built a 5-0 lead.
Junior
Andew Sinon (Conwell-Egan) suffered the loss, going three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out two and walking two.
The Griffins will embark next weekend on their Spring Trip to Florida where they'll play eight games in seven days. First up is a doubleheader against Penn State-Altoona on Saturday, March 5th.
