DOVER, DEL. – Despite 17 points and 13 rebounds from senior Kristy McGrath (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), Gwynedd-Mercy suffered a 62-53 defeat at Wesley Monday evening.
Brittany Neill (Woodlyn, Pa./Archmere Academy Del.) chipped in 13 points and Bryn Cotteta (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) added 11.
The Griffins (6-3) trailed by six points at the half, as both teams had offensive troubles. Wesley would open the second half on a 14-0 run as the Wolverines would hold a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Cory Boyd scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the second half to lead the Wolverines (7-5). Teammate Angie Owens totaled 18 points and nine boards as Wesley outrebounded GM, 53-41, for the contest.
Gwynedd led 9-0 from the jump taking advantage of shooting woes from Wesley, who missed their first 19 shots. It became a 13-13 game with six minutes left in the stanza before the Griffins were down 23-17 at the break.
GM will get back at it on Thursday when they play at King's starting at 7 p.m.
