CHESTER, PA. – An 18-7 key run in the second half was the difference in helping Gwynedd-Mercy pick up an 89-81 non-league win at Widener Monday night.
Leading 59-58 with just over eight minutes to play, the Griffins (7-3) would go on a seven and a half minute run to lead by as much as 77-65 with 2:38 left.
Senior Jon Crabtree (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) scored 12 of his game-high 19 points in the crucial second half, in which GM shot almost 60% and were 21-of-29 from the free-throw line.
Crabtree also collected 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Junior Dan DelConte (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) also had a double-double recording 18 points and 11 assists.
A total of four Griffins finished in double figures. Senior Jon Hogga (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) netted 17 points while freshman Brandyn Wims (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) added 11 off the bench.
Jack Brennan led the Pride (6-4) with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Gwynedd trailed by as much as seven in the first half before storming back to lead 38-34 at the half.
The Griffins are now off for the holiday break and will reconvene next month when they play at Keystone in a CSAC matchup on January 10th.
