Win versus Saints Secures Swartley AEC Defensive Player of the Week Title, Lockhart Lands on Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (5/2/2022) – Senior goalkeeper Aubron Swartley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) made his second appearance on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Report, this time garnering the Defensive Player of the Week title with his win over Marymount University. He was joined on the weekly report by sophomore midfielder GianLuca Lockhart (Turnersville, N.J.), who scored a career-high five goals in Gwynedd Mercy University’s 12-7 victory over the Saints.

Gwynedd Mercy University (5-11, 2-4) ended their AEC and regular seasons on a high note with a thrilling 12-7 victory over Marymount University (8-8, 4-2). The Griffins set the tone early, separating for a 3-1 first-quarter edge with unassisted scores from sophomore attack Jason Eide (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) (2-1, 9:16) and Lockhart (3-1, 1:04). Gwynedd Mercy University doubled-down in the second quarter, scoring twice for each of the Saints' first two goals, 7-3 (5:13), and matching them goal-for-goal to an 8-4 halftime spread. Lockhart headlined the Griffins' statement second quarter with goals at 6:08, 5:13, and 0:26. He scored his fifth goal to put Gwynedd Mercy University up 9-5 with 4:19 remaining in the third quarter and from there late-period goals from sophomore midfielder Nick Flamma (Sewell, N.J.) (10-5, 1:28) and Eide (11-5, 1:20) put the Griffins ahead 11-5 heading to the final frame. There, the Saints did outscore Gwynedd Mercy University, but the 2-1 margin was not enough to deny the Griffins' triumph.

Lockhart took a team-high 16 shots to score his career-high five goals. He also recorded four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Swartley (4-10) accompanied his dozen (12) saves with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Gwynedd Mercy University used the momentum to upset #3 Marywood University 14-9 in the AEC Quarterfinals (Apr. 30) and advances to the AEC Semifinals, where they visit #1 Cabrini University for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, May 4.
