Baumeister and Schwartz Appear on AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (4/14/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University fifth-year pitcher/infielder Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) and junior middle infielder Avery Schwartz (Collegeville, Pa.) appeared on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll for their play in a two-game sweep of defending league champion Centenary University (N.J.) (W, 13-10/W, 9-2 on Apr. 10). Baumeister picked up a save (1) and a win (6-5) in the Griffins' AEC doubleheader against the Cyclones, while Schwartz went 4-for-7 with 2 runs and 4 runs-batted-in (RBI).

Marywood University junior third baseman Tori Para (Inkerman, Pa.) was named the AEC Softball Player of the Week, while the AEC Softball Pitcher of the Week title went to her teammate, freshman Brianna Voyer (Mineola, N.Y.). Baumeister and Schwartz were joined on the AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll by Marymount University senior corner infielder Kaylynn Johnson (Alexandria, Va.) as well as Immaculata University fifth-year shortstop/pitcher Jess Oldham (Wilmington, Del.) and fifth-year pitcher/first baseman Riece Onorato (Cinnaminson, N.J.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (7-16, 3-1) lit the scoreboard up for eight runs in the third inning (10-4) of game one versus Centenary University (N.J.) (2-18, 0-4). They added three more in the fifth inning (13-6), providing senior Emily Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Baumeister plenty of headway to pick up their first win (1-8) and save (1) of the season, respectively. In game two, the Griffins used a triple from sophomore utility Hannah Cohen (North Wales, Pa.) (2-2) and a sacrifice fly from senior right fielder Carly Maw (Bensalem, Pa.) to gain a 3-2 lead, before adding four insurance runs in the fifth inning (7-2) and two more in the sixth inning of a 9-2 final. Baumeister earned the win (6-5) as she kept the Cyclones off track as she allowed one earned run on five hits, while striking out seven.

Schwartz went 3-for-4 in game one and knocked in three runs with singles in the first and third innings. She also scored on Cohen’s third-inning triple. In game two, she went 1-for-3 with a run as she crossed home in the second inning and single through the box in the fifth.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Monday, April 14, when they visit Marymount University for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
