Horner Named AEC Baseball Player of the Week, Scott Scores Second Honor Roll Recognition

Lancaster, Pa. – (3/3/2025) – The Gwynedd Mercy University duo of sophomore third baseman Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and freshman pitcher Brayden Scott (Gilbert, Ariz.) returned to the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Weekly Report for their play during a 2-2 week versus Delaware Valley University (W, 23-7 (7) on Feb. 24), Rutgers-Camden (L, 2-14 (8) on Feb. 25), Penn State Abington (W, 9-6 on Feb. 28), and Hobart College (L, 2-8 (11) on Mar. 1). The former garnered the AEC Baseball Player of the Week title by going 7-for-12 (.583) with a walk, four runs, three runs-batted-in (RBI), and a stolen base, while the latter earned his second Honor Roll appearance with another strong start to begin his debut season.

The AEC Baseball Pitcher of Week title went to Marymount University senior Parker Casselberry (Jenks, Okla.), while Scott was joined on the AEC Baseball Weekly Honor Roll by Marymount University junior pitcher/outfielder Ryan Cuadros (Springfield, Va.).

Horner was 3-for-3 with a walk in a 23-7, seven-inning win over Delaware Valley University, but it performance was only a foot note as freshman catcher Gabe Tomei (Manahawkin, N.J.) (4-for-5, BB, 2R, 5RBI) hit for the first cycle in program history with his a two-run homerun in the first inning (3-1), a single in the second, a two-run triple in the third (13-3), and an RBI-double in the sixth (23-7). Horner sacrificed in his first at-bat, but singled in both the second and third innings, before tripling and walking a run in with two fifth-inning at-bats.

Later in the week, the Griffins and Nittany Lions combined for 11 eighth-inning runs in a 9-6 Gwynedd Mercy University comeback. Neither side mustered much offense through the first seven innings, but that changed as each side went to the bullpen. After Scott left the contest, Penn State Abington took a 6-2 lead with four runs in the top of the inning. Fortunately, the Red and Gold showed their resiliency with seven runs of their own in the bottom of the frame; 9-6. Scott held the Nittany Lions to two runs on eight hits. He took no decision, but struck out six over 7.0 innings of work. Horner went 1-for-4 in the contest with an RBI-single in the 8th inning (6-3).

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Tuesday, March 4, when they host Muhlenberg College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
