Eagan and Bell Boast AEC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Accolades

Lancaster, Pa. – (11/18/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior forward Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) continued to anchor the Gwynedd Mercy University gameplan in games versus Arcadia University (L, 61-74 on Nov. 13) and Delaware Valley University (W, 80-74 on Nov. 16) and returned to the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll alongside freshman guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.). Eagan came up a rebound shy of a double-double in the Battle of 309 with 13 points and nine rebounds, but recorded one in the win over the Aggies with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Bell found comfort in the Red and Gold backcourt with double-digit scoring performances and some solid defense.

Centenary University (N.J.) swept the AEC Women’s Basketball Player and Defensive Player of the Week awards as sophomore forward Vatijah Davis (Poconos, Pa.) and senior guard Kaylie Elsbree (Howell, N.J.) respectively garnered the honors. Eagan and Bell were joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by Neumann University senior forward Emily DuPont (Malvern, Pa.) and senior forward Lauren Klieber (Malvern, Pa.), Immaculata University senior guard Reese Mullins (Hockessin, Del.) and freshman forward Carly Coleman (Springfield, Pa.), Marymount University freshman guard Kaylah Barr (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior forward Ava Achtyl (Lancaster, N.Y.), as well as Marywood University junior guard Megan Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa.) and senior guard Olivia Ciullo (Old Forge, Pa.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (2-2) hosted this year's Battle of 309 contest against Arcadia University (2-1). The first 20 minutes were back-and-forth with the Knights only holding on to a two-point lead going into halftime; 36-34 (0:04). Unfortunately, a 22-12 third-quarter advantage for Arcadia University would be the turning point in the contest as the Knights walked away with a 74-61 victory. Bell finished with a career-high 17 points on an impressive 7-of-11 (77%) shooting effort; she also recorded three rebounds, an assist, and three steals. Eagan was equally impressive with an assist, a block, and a steal in addition to her 13 points and nine boards.

In Saturday’s fast-paced affair with Delaware Valley University (1-2), a 41-41 halftime stalemate was pushed in the Griffins’ favor – 80-74 (0:14) - after freshman guard Peyton Attivo (Middletown, Pa.) connected on her first collegiate three-pointer; 72-70 (2:20). Quietly, Eagan recorded her third double-double of the season while also providing an assist and making a steal. Bell was the Red and Gold’ primary ball handler and she distributed the rock at a high efficiency with seven assists. She also recorded ten points, seven rebounds, and two steals.

Gwynedd Mercy University hits the road for the first time in their 2024-2025 season on Saturday, November 23, when they visit King's College (Pa.) for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
