Christensen and Stocklin Score AEC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll Mentions
 
Lancaster, Pa. – (9/9/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University freshman midfielder Gunnar Christensen (Finksburg, Md.) and junior defenseman Colin Stocklin (Philadelphia, Pa.) appeared on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll for their role in the Red and Gold’s 1-1 week versus Misericordia University (L, 0-4 on Sept. 3) and Penn State Schuylkill (W, 6-1 on Sept. 7). Both Griffins recorded a pair of goals in the win over the Nittany Lions; the former netted back-to-back goals in the 35th (4-0, 34:10) and 36th (5-0, 35:25) minutes, while the latter capped Gwynedd Mercy University goals with the first (1-0, 2:20) and the last (6-1, 69:14).
 
Marymount University sophomore midfielder Erick Shoetter-Rojas (Centreville, Pa.) was recognized as the AEC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, while the Defensive Player of the Week honor went to Immaculata University senior goalkeeper Ryan Straub (Broomall, Pa.). Christensen and Stocklin were joined on the Weekly Honor Roll by Marywood University senior midfielder Danny Gomez (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore defenseman Drew Smith (Archbald, Pa.), Neumann University senior forward Jake Kuzmick (Springfield, Pa.) and junior goalkeeper Carson Metzger (Boiling Springs, Pa.), Immaculata University senior forward Matthew Kirkpatrick (Brick, N.J.), and Pratt Institute of Technology sophomore midfielder Dylan Costa (New York, N.Y.).
 
On Tuesday, September 3, Gwynedd Mercy University (1-2) hosted Misericordia University (1-1) for their 2024 home opener. The Red and Gold had their best chance to score when junior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) was awarded a free position shot 20 yards from the net at 43:20, but ultimately fell to the Cougars by a 4-0 margin. Christensen recorded his only shot of the contest at 44:15.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University traveled to Penn State Schuylkill (0-3) on Saturday, September 7. Just 2:20 into the game, Stocklin scored his first Griffin goal, sparking the Red and Gold to their first win of the 2024 season. Christensen extended the Gwynedd Mercy University lead 5-0 later in the first half with back-to-back unassisted scores at 34:10 and 35:25. With the Griffins dominating the majority of play, the team set a program record in shots with 42.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their schedule on Wednesday, September 11, when they visit Lancaster Bible College for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
