Baumeister Makes Fourth Straight AEC Softball Weekly Report

Lancaster, Pa. – (4/15/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior pitcher/infielder Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) remained on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Honor Report for a fourth straight week as she collected her third Honor Roll recognition following a complete-game victory and a three-hit, three-RBI (runs-batted-in), performance the Griffins’ 7-0 game-two league win over Centenary University (Apr. 13). She finished the week 4-for-10 at the plate with two runs and four RBI.

Baumeister was joined on the AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll by Neumann University sophomore catcher/utility Emily Ammon (Gap, Pa.) and senior catcher/infielder Elizabeth Shire (Bensalem, Pa.). Meanwhile, the AEC Player of the Week honor went to Cabrini University senior catcher/outfielder Kaitlyn Delaney (Fallston, Md.) and the AEC Defensive Player of the Week went to junior pitcher/infielder Jaelynn Miller (Oxford, N.J.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (9-13, 3-4) led Marymount University (12-12-1, 5-2) 3-2 heading to the seventh inning of game one; there, the Saints plated four runs to steal the first game of the AEC doubleheader by a 6-3 measure. The second game of the twin bill did not come to conclusion as darkness halted the game with a 1-1 score in the top of the 10th inning. Senior third baseman Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the only Griffin to record multiple hits (2-of-3) in the first game, but the bottom of the line-up did damage with three runs-batted-in (RBI) from the 7-9 spot. In game two, Baumeister matched the Saints' hurler as she pitched in all nine completed innings and held Marymount University to five hits in those frames.

Baumeister earned her fifth win of the season (5-3) and first by shutout fashion with a four strikeout performance in a 7-0, game-two final versus AEC rival Centenary University (NJ) (18-5, 7-1). The victory earned Gwynedd Mercy University a split with the Cylcones as the home team won the first game of the doubleheader by a 6-4 final. Baumeister (1-for-4) was one of four Griffins to record a hit in the opener and the only one to knock in a run. She knocked in three runs with a team-high three hits (3-for-3), while holding Centenary University to six hits and a walk in game two.

Gwynedd Mercy University softball returns to action on Tuesday, April 16, when they host Penn State Abington for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
