DeSimone Finish at DII/DIII Challenge Draws AEC Runner of the Week Award
 
Lancaster, Pa. – (9/18/2023) – Sophomore Sebastian DeSimone (West Orange, N.J.) led Gwynedd Mercy University’s finishes at Kutztown University’s Division II/Division III Challenge as his time of 33:39.3 placing him 85^th in the eight kilometer (8K) race. The performance earned DeSimone the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University ran in the first of two Friday night events on their 2023 schedule as they visited Kutztown University for the Golden Bears' Division II/Division III Challenge on Saturday, September 16. The Griffins finished 9th of 9 with 281 points in the men's eight kilometer (8K) thanks to DeSimone’s 85^th-place (33:39.3) finish. The men's race opened the event and saw Shippensburg University provide four of the Top-5 and six of the Top-10 finishers; all including the top-finisher senior Aiden Gonder (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), who completed the 8k North Campus Farm Course in 26:22.3.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University runs next on Saturday, September 30, at the Penn State Abington Invitational. The starting gun is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
