Lauren Yancer '21 was named Gwynedd Mercy University's head women's volleyball coach prior to the 2023 season. Yancer was a member of the Gwynedd Mercy University women’s volleyball program from 2018-2021 and graduated among the Top-20 all-time in in digs (11
th, 600) and digs per set (18
th, 2.38). She previously held coaching positions with BUXCO VBC (January 2022 – present), Jems Volleyball Club (January 2023 – May 2023), Great American Volleyball (June 2021 – present), and Delta Volleyball Club (October 2018 – May 2019).
In Gwynedd Mercy University's first season under Coach Yancer, the Red and Gold enjoyed conference victories over Centenary University (NJ) (W, 3-2 on Oct. 7), Marywood University (W, 3-1 on Oct. 11), and Immaculata University (W, 3-0 on Oct. 21) finishing their conference record 3-2 and 12-16 overall. The Griffins earned the number three seed in the Atlantic East Confernece (AEC) tournament defeating the number six seed Immacualta University (W, 3-0 on Nov. 7) in the AEC Quarterfinals before going on to fall to the number two seed Neumann University (L, 1-3 on Nov. 9). Yancer and her coaching staff was awarded the 2023 AEC Coaching Staff of the Year.
Yancer served as a team captain for her senior season (2021) and helped lead the Gwynedd Mercy University women’s volleyball team to their second Atlantic East Conference Championship Tournament appearance in four seasons. She finished her collegiate career with 64 points (16 kills, 48 aces), 37 assists, and 600 digs. She was an accomplished student-athlete, serving as a member of the Griffins’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC, 2018-2021) and the Business Student Advisory Board (2019-2021) while earning recognition on the Fall 2021 Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Academic Elite and the AEC All-Academic Team (2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021, 2021-2022). Yancer is a member of both Sigma Beta Delta (International Honor Society for Business, Management, and Administration) and Chi Alpha Sigma; the National College Athlete Honor Society (2022).
Following her outstanding collegiate career, Yancer took on coaching. She received her first professional appointment in 2018 as an assistant coach at Delta Volleyball Club. In 2021, she became an assistant coach (June 2021 – August 2021) at Great American Volleyball (GAV), where she worked her way up the ranks to instruct youth participants as a head coach (June 2022 – present) and site director (June 2023 – present). During successive summers, Coach Yancer also held assistant coaching positions with Jems Volleyball Club and BUXCO VBC.
A native of Southampton, Pennsylvania, Yancer graduated from Gwynedd Mercy University in December of 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She joined the University as a fulltime employee in January 2022 as a marketing and public relations manager.
