Stevenson, Md. – (9/26/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (1-6-1) received an impressive performance in goal from sophomore goalkeeper Ethan Zimmerman (Myerstown, Pa.) (0-3), who recorded a career-high 13 saves, but the Griffins fell 5-0 to Stevenson University (5-1-2).
Griffin Highlights:
- The Mustangs applied pressure from the opening whistle, but Zimmerman immediately answered the call with a save just 45 seconds into the match.
- Zimmerman and the Griffin defense settled in following the opening goal and kept Stevenson off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half. Zimmerman made another stop in the 21st minute before denying Stevenson in the 28th. Despite the Mustangs generating 11 shots and seven corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes, Gwynedd Mercy entered halftime facing only a 1-0 deficit.
- The Griffins nearly found an equalizer in the 30th minute. Junior midfielder Gunnar Christensen (Finksburg, Md.) produced Gwynedd Mercy's first attempt of the afternoon at 29:25 and beat the Stevenson goalkeeper, but his shot struck the right post, narrowly keeping the Griffins from leveling the contest.
- Christensen generated another opportunity for the Griffins at 61:02, sending an attempt wide left.
- Gwynedd Mercy generated its best late opportunity following a corner kick in the 84th minute. Junior defender Adam Leal (Jessup, Md.) put a shot on frame at 83:40, forcing the Mustang's goalkeeper to make a save. Zimmerman then closed his afternoon with two more stops in the final three minutes, finishing the full 90 minutes with 13 saves.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Tuesday, September 29, when the team travels to FDU-Florham with a scheduled 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
