Ryan Burns (Abington, Pa.) each found the back of the net for the Griffins, while Gwynedd Mercy's goalkeeping tandem combined for 14 saves.
Griffin Highlights:
- The Griffins then capitalized on their first major offensive opportunity. At 17:43, Christensen scored to give Gwynedd Mercy a 1-0 advantage. The goal came despite FDU-Florham controlling much of the early possession, rewarding the Griffins for their defensive work and putting the visitors in front.
- The Griffins came out aggressively after halftime. Berkery tested Ford just 1:07 into the second half, putting an attempt on target. Burns and senior forward Devario Gboho (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed with additional shots as Gwynedd Mercy began generating more attacking opportunities. The Griffins finished with seven second-half shots after recording two in the opening period.
- At 70:25, Christensen connected with Berkery, who finished the opportunity to even the contest at 2-2. The play gave Christensen his third point of the evening with a goal and an assist.
- At 77:41, Berkery helped create another Gwynedd Mercy goal, this time setting up Burns, who found the back of the net to put the Griffins ahead 3-2. In a span of just over seven minutes, Gwynedd Mercy had turned a 2-1 deficit into a one-goal advantage.
- Gwynedd Mercy continued fighting until the final whistle. Berkery produced one final scoring opportunity at 89:28, placing his attempt on target and forcing the Devils to make a save with only 32 seconds remaining.
- Christensen finished with two shots, two shots on goal, one goal, and one assist, while Berkery recorded a team-high three shots—all on goal—to go with a goal and an assist. Burns added two shots and a goal. Overall, seven of Gwynedd Mercy's nine shots were on target.
- In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Ethan Zimmerman (Myerstown, Pa.) recorded six saves in 27:51, while freshman Kevin Harter (Springfield, N.J.) (0-1) made eight saves over the final 62:09. The Griffin goalkeepers were consistently tested against an FDU-Florham side that produced 39 shots, but their work helped give Gwynedd Mercy the opportunity to take the lead deep into the second half.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Saturday, October 3, when the team host Pratt Institute with a scheduled 12:00 p.m. kickoff.
