Langhorne, Pa. – (9/23/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (2-5) grabbed an early advantage behind a first-half goal from
Rebecca Gordon (Sicklerville, N.J.), but Cairn University (5-1-1) rallied in the second half to hand the Griffins a 3-1 defeat Tuesday evening. Gordon finished the contest with two shots, one shot on goal, and the Griffins' lone tally while junior midfielder
Samantha Winco (Chalfont, Pa.) led the Gwynedd Mercy offense with a team-high four shots.
Griffin Highlights:
- Gwynedd Mercy generated the first scoring opportunity of the evening when Winco sent an attempt just left of the target in the 11th minute. On the opposite end, sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Davis (Riverside, N.J.) (2-5) helped keep the match scoreless, making her first save at 14:47.
- The Griffins broke through at 21:26. Sophomore midfielder Alexa Harr (Philadelphia, Pa.) helped create the opportunity and found Gordon, who finished the play for her first goal of the 2026 season and gave Gwynedd Mercy a 1-0 lead.
- Winco produced another opportunity for the Griffins with 21 seconds remaining in the half as the two teams entered intermission even at 1-1.
- The Griffins produced one of its strongest offensive stretches during the final 10 minutes. Freshman forward Michelina Soroka (Hatboro, Pa.) recorded an attempt at 80:57, followed just four seconds later by another opportunity from Gordon. Junior midfielder Olivia Crawford (Rockledge, Pa.) then put a shot on goal at 81:13. Soroka generated one more opportunity in the 86th minute as the Griffins continued attacking through the closing stages.
- Davis played all 90 minutes between the posts and recorded four saves, including three in the opening half. The Griffins also played a disciplined match, committing only four fouls and receiving no cautions.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Saturday, September 26, when the team travels to Eastern University with a scheduled 11:00 a.m. kickoff.
