Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (9/16/2026) – The Gwynedd Mercy University Women's Soccer (2-4) team put together a strong defensive opening half Saturday afternoon, holding the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg (4-2 scoreless through the first 45 minutes before ultimately falling 4-0 at the Athletic Complex. Sophomore goalkeeper
Zoe Davis (Riverside, N.J.) was instrumental in keeping the contest scoreless during the opening period. Davis finished with five saves in the loss (2-4).
Griffin Highlights:
- The Griffins' defensive effort remained strong as halftime approached. The Bobcats generated several opportunities, but Davis made another stop in the 38th minute while the Gwynedd Mercy defense also recorded a team save earlier in the half. The Griffins successfully kept the Bobcats off the scoreboard despite facing ten first-half shots.
- Gwynedd Mercy also generated an opportunity to break the deadlock before intermission. Freshman forward Michelina Soroka (Hatboro, Pa.), who entered the match in the 19th minute, put the Griffins' first shot on goal at 35:02, forcing Pittsburgh at Greensburg goalkeeper to make a save. The two sides entered halftime locked in a 0-0 tie.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Chloe Pennings (Williamsport, Pa.) then entered in goal and helped keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard for the final 21:48, finishing with two saves.
- Senior defender Elena DiPrinzio (Warrington, Pa.) put an attempt on target at 71:10, forcing another save. from Pittsburgh at Greensburgh. Three minutes later, freshman midfielder LaNya Bracero (Palmyra, N.J.) looked to cut into the deficit, but her attempt was blocked by the Bobcats' defense.
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Wednesday, September 23, when the team travels to Cairn University with a scheduled 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
