Lancaster, Pa. - (4/27/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (19-17) put together a strong early performance at the plate and on the mound, building a multi-run lead and controlling the tempo through the middle innings. A four-run inning in the seventh and a three-run inning in the eighth, however, were the difference in an 8–4 loss against Lancaster Bible College (17-16). Sophomore infielder Deven Ross paced the offense with a standout 2-for-4 performance, including a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Junior outfielder Karl Wissman (Cinnaminson, N.J.) added two runs-batted-in (RBI), reaching base multiple times and providing timely production in key moments. Junior infielder Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, N.J.) also contributed with two hits, helping the Griffins generate consistent traffic on the bases.
Griffin Highlights:
- The Griffins struck first in the fourth inning as Ross ignited the offense with a double and later scored on an RBI groundout from Wissman (1-0). Gwynedd Mercy extended the lead in the fifth, capitalizing on patient at-bats and hit-by-pitches, with Wissman driving in another run to make it 2–0.
- Gwynedd Mercy added to its advantage in the seventh inning, scoring two more runs on a defensive miscue and a well-executed sacrifice bunt from senior outfielder Jon Cimino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.), pushing the lead to 4–1. The Griffins showed strong situational hitting and aggressiveness on the bases to manufacture runs.
- On the mound, sophomore pitcher Kevin King (Ridley, Pa.) delivered an excellent start, tossing five innings while allowing just one unearned run on one hit. King kept Lancaster Bible off balance with efficient pitching and strong command, helping Gwynedd Mercy maintain control through the early and middle frames.
- The Griffins also displayed plate discipline throughout the game, drawing eight walks and forcing Lancaster Bible's pitching staff into high-pressure situations. Gwynedd Mercy finished with five hits and four runs, consistently finding ways to create scoring opportunities.
Gwynedd Mercy University plays its final home game on Friday, May 1, when the Griffins host Saint Elizabeth University for a scheduled 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
