Lachowicz Leads Late Griffin Surge in AEC Battle with Mighty Macs

Immaculata, Pa. - (4/11/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (6-5, 1-1 AEC) - turned in a high-effort performance Saturday afternoon, controlling possession and mounting a strong fourth-quarter push in a 12-5 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) contest loss against Immaculata University (10-4, 2-1 AEC). Freshman midfielder Cooper Lachowicz (Toms River, N.J.) finished with a team-high two goals and six shots on goal. Lachowicz also recorded two groundballs and one caused turnover.

Griffin Highlights:

  • The Griffins showed early composure, responding quickly after conceding the opening goal with a man-up strike from Lachowicz, assisted by senior attacker Nick Citrigno (Southampton, Pa.), to even the score at 1–1 in the first quarter. Gwynedd Mercy continued to generate quality looks, finishing the opening period tied while matching Immaculata in shots and defensive stops.
  • Offensively, the Griffins were aggressive throughout, finishing with 35 total shots and 25 shots on goal, matching the Mighty Macs in on-target attempts. Citrigno added a goal and an assist. Senior attacker Josh Devine (Pottstown, Pa.) and sophomore attacker Ethan Galvan (Brick, N.J.) each found the back of the net as Gwynedd Mercy showcased balanced scoring.
  • Defensively, junior Joe Oriold (Southampton, Pa.) contributed five caused turnovers, anchoring a unit that consistently pressured Immaculata's attack.
  • In goal, sophomore Alexander Guardino (Lumberton, N.J.) (6-5) made 13 saves, keeping the Griffins within striking distance against a high-powered Immaculata offense. Gwynedd Mercy also capitalized on its lone extra-man opportunity, finishing 1-for-1, while continuing to pressure defensively across all four quarters.

Gwynedd Mercy is back in action at home on Saturday, April 18, when the team celebrates Senior Day and battles Neumann University with a scheduled 12:00 p.m. start.
