Griffins Rally in Second Quarter, Battle Neumann on the Road

Aston, Pa. - (2/11/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (7-16, 4-8 AEC), responded with resilience Saturday afternoon, using a dominant second-quarter surge and a strong rebounding effort to stay competitive before falling, 62–48, to Neumann University (8-15, 6-6 AEC) in Atlantic East Conference (AEC) action at The Mirenda Center. Off the bench, sophomore guard Brianna McFadden (Fairless Hills, Pa.) provided a spark with a team-high 10 points (4-of-9, 44%), knocking down a pair of three-pointers (2-of-6, 33%) and adding defensive pressure on the perimeter. 

Griffin Highlights: 

  • After a challenging opening quarter, the Griffins flipped the momentum in the second period, outscoring Neumann 18–8 while holding the Knights scoreless from three-point range. Gwynedd Mercy shot 57.1 percent from beyond the arc in the quarter and erased an early double-digit deficit to pull within 23–22 at halftime, showcasing poise and execution on the road. 
  • The Griffins continued to battle in the second half, trading baskets in the third quarter and briefly reclaiming the lead behind aggressive interior play. Layla Verbit (Sellersville, Pa.) led the Griffins starters with eight points and seven rebounds, consistently attacking the glass, while senior forward Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) added seven points, ten rebounds, and three steals, anchoring the defense and interior presence. 
  • Junior guard Alyssa Cresto (Newark, Del.) chipped in seven points, while junior forward Azzy Crumpton (Conshohocken, Pa.) contributed seven points and six rebounds, helping Gwynedd Mercy control the paint during key stretches. 
  • Gwynedd Mercy finished the afternoon with a commanding 52–41 rebounding advantage, including 30 offensive rebounds, which led to 23 second-chance points. The Griffins also forced 21 turnovers, converting them into 18 points, reflecting consistent defensive pressure throughout the contest. 

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the road one final time during the regular season with a trip to Centenary University (N.J.) on Wednesday, February 18, with a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
