Lancaster, Pa. – (10/5/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University junior midfielder
Gunnar Christensen (Finksburg, Md.) was named to the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll for performance in recent losses to FDU-Florham (L, 3-4 on Sept. 29) and league rival Pratt Institute (L, 0-1 on Oct. 3). The Red and Gold captain scored the first goal (1-0, 17:43) of the affair with the Devils and assisted on a game-tying goal (2-2, 70:25) in the 71
st minute. He finished the week with five shots as he also took a few in the Griffins' AEC opener versus the Cannoneers.
Christensen was joined on the AEC Men's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll by Marymount University sophomore forward Micah Volger (Georgetown, Texas), as well as Saint Elizabeth University senior goalkeeper Jonathan Ramirez-Delgado (Wharton, N.J.) and senior defenseman Carlos Saldana (Elizabeth, N.J.). Centenary University (N.J.) freshman forward Shane Gambarony (Toms River, N.J.) was named the AEC Men's Soccer Player of the Week while Pratt Institute junior defenseman Alex Abbruzzese (Staten Island, N.Y.) was named the AEC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Gwynedd Mercy University (1-9-1, 0-1) showed plenty of fight Monday evening, scoring three times and holding a late second-half lead before falling 4-3 to FDU-Florham (3-1-3) at Robert T. Shields Field. Christensen (1-0, 17:43), freshman defenseman
Cillian Berkery (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2-2, 70:25), and junior midfielder
Ryan Burns (Abington, Pa.) (3-2, 77:41) each found the back of the net for the Griffins, while Red and Gold's goalkeeping tandem of sophomore
Ethan Zimmerman (Myerstown, Pa.) (6 saves, 27:51 minutes) and freshman
Kevin Harter (Springfield, N.J.) (8, 62:09) combined for 14 saves.
Gwynedd Mercy University controlled much of Saturday's afternoon's AEC opener versus Pratt Institute (2-5-1, 1-0), holding significant advantages in shots (19-6) and corner kicks (8-1). Unfortunately, the Griffins were unable to capitalize in a narrow 1-0 setback to the Cannoneers. Senior midfielder
Luke O'Donnell (Glenside, Pa.) led the Gwynedd Mercy attack with a game-high seven shots, including two on goal. Christensen put one of his three shots on-goal.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Wednesday, October 7, when they visit Centenary University (N.J.) for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
