Gordon’s Early Goal, Davis’ Penalty Kick Save Lift Griffins to 1-0 Senior Day Victory

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (10/24/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (5-12, 3-3 AEC) team delivered a strong all-around performance Saturday afternoon, using an early goal from senior midfielder Rebecca Gordon (Sicklerville, N.J.) and a six-save shutout from sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Davis (Riverside, N.J.) (5-12) to secure a 1-0 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory over Pratt Institute (7-5, 3-3 AEC) at the Athletic Complex.

Before the contest, the Griffins recognized the collegiate careers of senior midfielders Jordyn Fregia (Levittown, Pa.), Bridget Cannon (Bensalem, Pa.) senior defenders Jessica Parker (Philadelphia, Pa.), Elena DiPrinzio (Warrington, Pa.), and Gordon.

Griffin Highlights:
  • Gwynedd Mercy wasted little time establishing its offensive presence. After pushing forward during the opening minutes, the Griffins broke through at 6:19, when Gordon found the back of the net 25 yards out to give Gwynedd Mercy an early 1-0 advantage. The goal provided the Griffins with momentum as they continued applying pressure on the Pratt defense.
  • The Griffins continued searching for an insurance goal following Gordon's opening tally. Junior midfielder Anna Nicosia (Columbus, N.J.) generated an opportunity at 9:52, sending an attempt just wide left before Gordon followed with another shot at 14:50. Sophomore midfielder Alexa Harr (Philadelphia, Pa.) nearly doubled Gwynedd Mercy's advantage just 33 seconds later, connecting on a header that sailed wide right.
  • The Griffins nearly extended their advantage in the 35th minute. After junior defender Paige Fienman (Philadelphia, Pa.) generated a scoring opportunity at 33:35, Nicosia followed just 36 seconds later with an attempt that struck the post. The near miss highlighted Gwynedd Mercy's continued offensive pressure as the Griffins looked to build on their early lead.
  • On the defensive end, Davis and the Griffin back line remained composed throughout the opening half. Davis made her first save at 36:35. The Griffins successfully kept Pratt off the scoreboard despite facing five first-half shots, allowing Gwynedd Mercy to enter halftime holding a 1-0 advantage.
  • One of the biggest moments of the afternoon came at 59:32, when Pratt was awarded a penalty kick, but Davis made the save to preserve Gwynedd Mercy's 1-0 lead. The crucial stop highlighted Davis' outstanding afternoon in goal and helped maintain the Griffins' advantage with just over 30 minutes remaining.
  • Gordon nearly recorded her second goal of the afternoon at 70:26, when her attempt struck the post. The opportunity marked the second time Gwynedd Mercy hit the woodwork, following Nicosia's first-half chance, as the Griffins continued generating dangerous scoring opportunities.
  • Gordon led the Gwynedd Mercy offense with a game-high eight shots, four shots on goal, and the game-winning goal.
  • Davis played all 90 minutes between the posts and recorded six saves, including her pivotal second-half penalty kick stop. The Griffin defense limited Pratt to 12 shots and six shots on goal, while Gwynedd Mercy held a 22-12 advantage in total attempts. The Griffins were particularly effective after halftime, outshooting the Cannoneers 14-7 over the final 45 minutes.
Gwynedd Mercy plays its final regular season contest on Wednesday, October 28, when the team travels to Centenary University (N.J.) with a scheduled 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
