Griffins Sweep Season Series Against Cannoneers

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/31/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (6-13, 3-5 AEC) put together a dominant three-quarter performance on Saturday afternoon, building a commanding early lead and cruising to a 66–52 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory over Pratt Institute (1-15, 0-8 AEC) inside the Griffin Complex. The Griffins controlled the game from the opening tip, never trailing and leading by as many as 34 points in the third quarter. The Red and Gold showcased their depth throughout the afternoon, receiving 33 bench points, led by sophomore guard Brianna McFadden's (Fairless Hills, Pa.) 14 points. McFadden also recorded a new-career high five steals throughout the contest and finished with three rebounds and an assist as well.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Gwynedd Mercy set the tone immediately, holding Pratt scoreless from the field in the first quarter and racing out to a 19–4 advantage after 10 minutes. The Griffins' defensive pressure forced early turnovers and fueled transition opportunities, while balanced scoring helped stretch the lead.
  • The Griffins extended their cushion in the second quarter, pouring in 23 points and taking a 42–15 halftime lead. Junior guard Alyssa Cresto (Newark, Del.) ignited the offense during the period, scoring nine points and knocking down multiple jumpers as Gwynedd Mercy consistently attacked the paint and moved the ball effectively.
  • Gwynedd Mercy continued to control the game in the third quarter, outscoring Pratt 17–13 and pushing the lead to its largest margin midway through the period. Freshman guard Layla Verbit (Sellersville, Pa.) finished with 10 points, while junior forward Azzy Crumpton (Conshohocken, Pa.) added nine points, five rebounds, and two steals. Senior forward Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) anchored the interior with six points, four steals, and a strong defensive presence in limited minutes.
  • The Griffins also dominated key hustle categories, scoring 27 points off turnovers, 17 second-chance points, and 12 fast-break points, while winning the rebounding battle 46–43.
  • Despite a late fourth-quarter push by Pratt, the outcome was never in doubt as Gwynedd Mercy maintained control and closed out its third conference win of the season.
  • With just 6:39 left to go in the contest, freshman guard Samadhi Kankanamalage (Union City, N.J.) recorded her first collegiate career points (2) with a mid-range jumper from the baseline.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wednesday, February 4, when the team travels to Marywood University for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
