Griffins Continue to Click, Soar over Eagles for AEC Score

Morristown, N.J. - (1/24/2026) - Gwynedd Mercy University (12-5, 5-1) showcased their talents in today's 20-point, 87-67, Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory at Saint Elizabeth University (5-11, 0-6) as senior guard D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.) and graduate guard Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.) headlined the Red and Gold's efforts with efficient afternoons. The former led four Griffins in double figures with 21 points; he was 9-of-10 (.900) from the field and 2-of-2 (1.000) from the free throw line, while recording a rebound, two assists, and a steal. Meanwhile, the latter hit 4-of-5 (.800) from long range and converted a layup for 14 points; he also recorded four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. 

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University separated from Saint Elizabeth University midway through the first half as a three-point play from junior guard Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.) (22-13, 9:53) and a layup from senior guard Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave the Griffins their first double-digit lead of the game; 24-13 (9:25).
  • The Red and Gold's first half lead maxed out at 19 points, 44-25, on the second of two Johnson free throws with 3:16 remaining and settled at 14 points, 45-31 (0:24), for halftime.
  • Johnson pushed the Griffin advantage to 20 points, 54-33 (17:24), early in the second half and later expanded it to 30 points, 85-55 (3:51), on a layup from freshman forward Harold Best (Wilmington, Del.) heading to the final four minutes.
  • In all, 16 Griffins took the floor. They scored 40 points in the paint, 29 off the bench, 16 off turnovers, 13 on second-chances, and 12 on the fastbreak.
  • In addition to Johnson and Harris, Senior forward Dashon Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Sayed also finished in double figures. The both scored 10 points; the former also grabbed four rebounds, while the latter grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and tied Snead for the team lead in assists with three.
  • Snead finished with four points, five rebounds, three assists, a block, and two steals.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex on Wednesday, January 28, when they host Marymount University for a 6:00 p.m. Morgan's Message Game.
