Shooting Woes Haunt Griffins Against Knights

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/17/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (4-11, 1-3 AEC) welcomed Neumann University (4-11, 2-2 AEC) to the Griffin Complex for a Saturday matinee Atlantic East Conference (AEC) contest. Despite an early deficit, the Griffins continued to compete on both ends and closed the game with improved efficiency and strong individual efforts. Senior forward Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) anchored the effort with a team-high 12 points, ten rebounds, three assists, and three steals, recording a double-double in the loss.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Gwynedd Mercy showed their best offensive rhythm in the third quarter, scoring 16 points while shooting 33 percent from the field and getting to the free-throw line consistently. Junior forward Azzy Crumpton (Conshohocken, Pa.) provided a spark in the quarter with four points and strong interior defense, while sophomore guard Alexis Kanzinger (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) added timely baskets and pressure defense to help swing momentum.
  • Gwynedd Mercy finished the game with a 35–37 rebounding effort, highlighted by 14 offensive rebounds that generated multiple second-chance opportunities. Freshman guard Layla Verbit (Sellersville, Pa.) contributed seven points and seven rebounds, attacking the rim and earning trips to the free-throw line, while sophomore forward Frannie Boyle (Newtown, Pa.) added four points in limited minutes to provide energy off the bench.
  • Defensively, the Griffins forced 18 turnovers, converting them into 17 points, and continued to pressure the ball through all four quarters. Sophomore guards Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) and Brianna McFadden (Fairless Hills, Pa.) combined for key defensive stops and assists, helping steady the lineup against Neumann's perimeter shooting.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to conference play at the Griffin Complex on Wednesday, January 21, when the team welcomes Centenary University (N.J.) for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
