Griffins Get Back On Track With AEC Victory Over Cyclones

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/21/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (5-11, 1-4 AEC) built a commanding first-half lead and withstood a late fourth-quarter push to earn a hard-fought 57–53 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory over Centenary University (N.J.) (8-8, 1-4 AEC) on Wednesday night inside the Griffin Complex. Senior forward Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) anchored the effort with a steady all-around performance, finishing with 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals, including a pair of clutch free throws in the final seconds to seal a 57-53 victory. 

Griffin Highlights: 

  • The Griffins set the tone early, forcing turnovers and controlling the tempo to take an 11–9 lead after the first quarter. Gwynedd Mercy then delivered its best stretch of the night in the second quarter, erupting for 24 points while shooting 62.5 percent from three-point range (5-of-8) to open a 35–23 halftime advantage. 
  • Junior forward Rachel Dunn (Lansdale, Pa.) matched Eisenhart with 12 points, knocking down both of her three-point attempts and adding a career-high five steals on the defensive end. 
  • The Griffins continued to control the game coming out of halftime, holding Centenary to just five points in the third quarter while extending the lead to as many as 19 points late in the period. Freshman guard Layla Verbit (Sellersville, Pa.) in her first career-start was active on the glass with a team and career-high 12 rebounds to go along with 10 points, securing her first career double-double, providing key second-chance opportunities, and interior defense.  
  • Gwynedd Mercy held Centenary to 24.3 percent shooting from the field, sealing a strong conference home win.  

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to conference play on Saturday, January 24, when the team travels to Saint Elizabeth University for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
