Griffins and Pacers Push Each Other To The Brink In Double Overtime Thriller

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/14/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (4-10, 1-2 AEC) welcomed Marywood University (8-6, 3-0 AEC) to the Griffin Complex for a Wednesday evening Atlantic East Conference (AEC) showdown. The Griffins led for much of the contest and showcased poise, balance, and toughness against a team that entered the night unbeaten in league play. The Red and Gold pushed the Pacers to double overtime, but in the end fell short 78-74. Senior forward Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) put it all on the line, playing all 50 minutes of the contest, finishing with a team-high 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, one block, and two steals.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Gwynedd Mercy set the tone early, racing out to an 18–9 first-quarter lead behind aggressive defense and efficient scoring in transition. The Griffins forced early turnovers and controlled the tempo, holding Marywood to just three-made field goals in the opening 10 minutes.
  • The Griffins carried a late lead into the fourth quarter and continued to battle through a physical final frame. Junior forward Alyssa Cresto (Newark, Del.) added 13 points, including three three-pointers, while junior forward Rachel Dunn (Lansdale, Pa.) provided a major spark off the bench with 11 points, six rebounds, and a key block late in regulation. Gwynedd Mercy also received strong backcourt play from sophomore guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.), who contributed eight points, five assists, and four steals.
  • With the game tied at the end of regulation, Gwynedd Mercy matched Marywood bucket-for-bucket in the first overtime. Eisenhart and sophomore guard Brianna McFadden (Fairless Hills, Pa.) fueled a fast-break surge that briefly gave the Griffins the edge, and the team's defensive pressure continued to generate opportunities.
  • Despite being outscored in the second overtime, Gwynedd Mercy never relented, finishing the night with a 52–49 rebounding advantage, 23 points off turnovers, and 36 points in the paint.
  • Gwynedd Mercy's weakness in tonight's contest was the free throw shooting. The team finished 15-28 (54%) from the charity stripe, missing late shots to end the contest in regulation.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to conference play at the Griffin Complex on Saturday, January 17, when the team welcomes Neumann University for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
