Red and Gold Escapes Mighty Mac Comeback for AEC Win

Immaculata, Pa. (1/10/2026) - Owners of a 48-33 (0:08) halftime lead and a 65-47 (9:03) mid-second half edge, Gwynedd Mercy University (9-4, 2-0) escaped Immaculata University (1-12, 0-2) with an 88-86 (0:01) Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory. Five Griffins finished in double figures, including graduate guard Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.) who shot his way to 21 points on 6-of-10 (.600) shooting performance - 4-of-8 (.500) from three - and a perfect 5-of-5 (1.000) clip at the free throw line. Harris was joined in double-digits by senior guard D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.) (15 points), sophomore guard Bruce Smith (Philadelphia, Pa.) (14), senior guard Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) (13), and senior guard Devin Benson (Williamstown, N.J.) (14).

Griffin Highlights
  • Gwynedd Mercy University was aggressive off the tip, separating for a 15-4 (16:16) lead with Harris finishing the opening run with a series of successful free throws, 12-4 (16:50), and a long-range basket.
  • Following a short Immaculata University push back, a refocused Red and Gold defense triggered fastbreak opportunities that eventually distanced them by as many as 19 points; 39-20 (5:16) before intermission.
  • After the break, the Griffins pushed a 48-33 halftime lead to 18 points, 65-47 (9:22), thanks to a Snead-Harris connection, 63-47 (10:09), and a couple of Snead free throws.
  • Harris added five rebounds, an assist, and two steals to his 21 points.
  • Johnson paired his 15 points with eight rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and seven steals; he led or shared the team-lead in each of the last three stat categories.
  • Smith offered a rebound, an assist, a block, and a steal in addition to his 14 points.
  • Snead recorded four rebounds, five assists, and three steals in excess of his 13 points.
