Griffins Get Balanced Scoring and Bench Production in Road Test at Immaculata

Immaculata, Pa. - (1/10/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University (4-9, 1-1 AEC) showcased depth and balanced scoring Saturday afternoon, placing two players in double figures and receiving strong bench production in a challenging Atlantic East Conference (AEC) matchup at the defending AEC Champions Immaculata University (10-3, 2-0 AEC). A 30-15 first-quarter run proved to be the difference maker with the Griffins falling 90-61.  Junior forward Azzy Crumpton (Conshohocken, Pa.) led the team in scoring in the contest with 16 points and recorded four rebounds in the defeat.

Griffin Highlights:

  • The Red and Gold stayed aggressive throughout the contest, finishing with 33 bench points and 16 second-chance points while continuing to attack the paint against one of the league's top teams. Gwynedd Mercy totaled 26 points in the paint and forced nine Immaculata turnovers, converting them into transition opportunities.
  • Freshman guard Layla Verbit (Sellersville, Pa.) delivered an efficient outing off the bench, scoring 12 points on 5-of-8 (63%) shooting, while sophomore guard Brianna McFadden (Fairless Hills, Pa.) added nine points, three steals, and a block to spark the lineup defensively.
  • Inside, senior forward Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) anchored the paint with nine rebounds, three steals, and three assists, while junior forward Rachel Dunn (Lansdale, Pa.) chipped in eight points and four rebounds. The Griffins also received steady contributions from sophomore guard Alexis Kanzinger (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.), junior guard Leah Harrington (Horsham, Pa.), and sophomore guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.), who combined for key minutes and ball movement against Immaculata's pressure defense.
  • Gwynedd Mercy showed its resilience in the second quarter, matching Immaculata's scoring with 17 points and continuing to battle on the glass, finishing with 37 total rebounds. Despite facing a difficult road environment, the Griffins continued to compete through the final horn, highlighting the team's depth and growth as conference play continues.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to conference play at the Griffin Complex on Wednesday, January 14, when the team welcomes Marywood University for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off.
