Griffins and Bears Claw Under Friday Night Lights

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/12/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy (1-5) showed grit and attacking flair on Friday night, but a pair of late goals proved too much to overcome in a 3-1 setback against Ursinus College (1-2-1).

The Griffins generated consistent pressure throughout, firing 14 shots and matching the Bears in corner kicks, 6-6. Senior forward Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) was the standout for the Griffins, recording three shots on goal before calmly burying a penalty kick in the 87th minute (87:15) to pull the hosts within striking distance at 2-1.

That goal capped a spirited second-half push, as Gwynedd Mercy worked tirelessly to create chances. Kehan, along with junior defenseman Axel Mayren (Atlantic City, N.J.) and junior forward Devario Gboho (Philadelphia, Pa.), tested the Ursinus keeper with dangerous looks. At the same time, the Griffin back line, anchored by senior defenseman Colin Stocklin (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior Matt Edwards (Bensalem, Pa.), stood tall against waves of Ursinus attacks.

Griffin Highlights:

  • Freshman goalkeeper Ethan Zimmerman (Myerstown, Pa.) was sharp between the posts, tallying five saves to keep the Griffins within reach. His efforts frustrated Ursinus for long stretches despite their 20-shot output in the loss (0-3).
  • Kehan and Stocklin lead the team in shots, with the former tallying four and the latter recording three, while sophomore midfielder Gunnar Christensen (Finksburg, Md.) and junior midfielder Luke O'Donnell (Glenside, Pa.) finished with two apiece.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wednesday, September 17, when the red and gold host FDU-Florham for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
