Red and Gold Gives Way to Knights in 309 Rivalry

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (9/10/2025) - A short trip North on 309 brought Arcadia University (2-1) to Gwynedd Mercy University (1-2) for this evening's field hockey competition. After denying two early Knight corners, the Griffins controlled  saw some early chances as penalty corners at 8:06 and 9:20 set up shots for freshman midfielder Gianna Radcliffe (Harleysville, Pa.) (8:26, 11:16) and junior defender Lillie Uttenreither (Bel Air, Md.) (9:31). Unfortunately, the visitors fended off the Red and Gold's initial advances and capitalized on their own penalty corner in the closing minutes of the first quarter; 1-0 (13:21). Arcadia University insured their lead early in the second quarter; 2-0 (15:30), and added their third goal early in the fourth; 3-0 (46:28).

Griffin Highlights
  • Junior midfielder Morgan Hoban (Cinnaminson, N.J.) lined up Gwynedd Mercy University's first penalty corner. After swing around the arc, the ball ended up on Radcliffe's stick for a shot wide of the Arcadia University goal. Hoban's second insert was followed by shots on goal from Uttenreither and another from the Red and Gold's standout newcomer.
  • Senior defender Abby LePage (Cinnaminson, N.J.) led the Griffins with three shots. All three came in sequence following a Gwynedd Mercy University penalty corner at 52:52. LePage's first attempt (53:09) was blocked, the second (53:14) was saved by the Knight goalkeeper, and the third (53:18) was sent wide.
  • Radcliffe and Uttenreither recorded two shots apiece.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Weaver (Flemington, N.J.) recorded four saves in the loss (1-2).
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their opening home stand on Saturday, September 13, when they host Eastern University for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
