Amber Medycki - with a pair of sweeps at the Cedar Crest College Tri-Match; the Griffins first defeated Delaware Valley University (DVU) by a 3-0 measure with set-wins of 25-21, 25-20, and 25-23, then set their sights on the hosts as set-scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-22 defeated the Falcons by 3-0 as well. Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) captained the Griffins to victory in both cases as she recorded 10.0 points (3 kills, 6 aces, 2 block assists), 19 assists, and five digs against the Aggies, before finding senior right side
Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) (14 kills) and junior defensive specialist
Kate Etter (Chambersburg, Pa.) (12) for 26 combined kills against Cedar Crest College.
GRIFFIN HIGHLIGHTS vs. Delaware Valley University
- Gwynedd Mercy University used a 9-2 opening run to get the edge on DVU and lead 23-16 before fending off a final Aggies rally; 25-21.
- The second set was close with Gaston making sure the Griffins stay a couple points ahead of DVU in a 25-20 conclusion.
- A third-set comeback earned the Red and Gold the match; Gwynedd Mercy University trailed 9-3 early and 19-10 late, but found their way to an eventual 25-23 victory with a series of strong offensive possessions.
- Gaston's effort were aided by an efficient hitting performance from Etter, who totaled eight kills on a .438 (8K-1E-16TA) hitting percentage.
- Pugh and sophomore defensive specialist Marley Robbins (Medford, N.J.) teamed to headline the defensive efforts with 11 digs apiece.
GRIFFIN HIGHLIGHTS vs. Cedar Crest College
- Gwynedd Mercy University won a trade a runs in a 25-22 first-set win.
- An 8-0 opening run and a 5-0 closing run helped the Griffins their most lopsided win of the afternoon; 25-16.
- But, the Red and Gold hit their best - .286 (16K-4E-42TA) - in their final set of the day to complete their sweep of the Falcons with another 25-22 set-win.
- Pugh and Etter both recorded double-digit kills; the former paired 14 kills with 13 digs, while the latter scored another dozen (12).
- Gaston was the director. She finished with one kill, 35 assists, five aces, two solo blocks, and 11 digs.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wednesday, September 3, when they host York College of Pennsylvania for a 6:00 p.m. home opener.
