Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (8/29/2025) - The 2025 Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Soccer team kicked off its 2025 season with a home contest against DeSales University. Like 2024, both teams met in their season openers; however, it was the Griffins this time that hosted the competition. Unfortunately, just like 2024, a familiar conclusion occurred with the red and gold dropping their first match of the season, 4-0. Freshman goalkeeper Ethan Zimmerman (Myerstown, Pa.) made his first collegiate career start in the net for the Griffins and shined in his first-ever contest, including a breakaway, sensational stop early in the second half (58:49). Zimmerman finished with ten saves in 73:22 minutes of action. Gwynedd Mercy would fall to DeSales 4-0 to start the 2025 season.
Griffin Highlights:
- Senior midfielder C.J. Clyde (Southampton, Pa.) and sophomore forward Gunnar Christensen (Finksburg, Md.) are the only members of Gwynedd Mercy to record shots in the contest. Both recorded two shots, with both finishing with a shot on goal apiece.
- Gwynedd Mercy's two corner kicks in the contest came in the first five minutes of the contest but were unable to register a shot on net (5:04, 5:48).
- Sophomore goalkeeper Cody Sell (Souderton, Pa.) came into the net in relief for Zimmerman, totaling 16:38 minutes in net, but not facing a shot.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Athletic Complex on Wednesday, September 3, when the team welcomes Delaware Valley University for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
